Is the robot lawnmower the future of garden care?

Husqvarna, who are represented by Atkins of Cork, have produced a worthwhile video showing the installation and use of one of their robot lawnmowers. The benefits of using the robot mower are apparent with use of the mower. The work and (valuable) time involved in maintenance of your lawn is quasi-automated, with the mower doing the work - day or night, as required by the home owner.

The robot mower means efficiency allowing the lawn to develop with consistent cutting, operating day or night, wet or dry. Because the mower is "active" at all times, lawns benefit from regular trimming and easier mulching which leads onto better lawn

Part of the concept of the robot lawnmower is definition of where the mower must work. A typical robotic lawn mower, well outlined in Husqvarna's video, requires the user to set up a border wire around the lawn that defines the area to be mowed. The robot uses this wire to locate the boundary of the area to be trimmed and in some cases to locate a recharging dock. A further feature of the use of the guidewire is the ability of the mower to recognise the over and back section of guidewire and therefore to ignore this part of the guidance system.

Atkins offer a wide range of robotic lawnmowers for a variety of budgets and garden requirements. Click here to visit and browse the range. Plans are advancing to organise and stage an Auto Mower event in the Cork area during March. As details are confirmed, we will publish details - watch this space!

A timely and still accurate summary of the robotic lawnmower technology was published in the Irish Examiner in 2018. To read this click here.
