Four exciting new job opportunities have arisen in Atkins, in different segments of our business. The addition of the Pottinger dealership in our Birr branch has created two positions, while the ever-expanding business in the Cork/West Cork regions has also led to the creation of two new jobs.

Farm Machinery Salesperson - West Cork Territory

Also overseeing operation of Bandon branch


Salesperson required, based out of Cork and Bandon, with responsibility for selling our portfolio of farm machinery (main franchises include McHale, Pottinger, Bogballe, Bredal & Major) in the West Cork region. The successful candidate will also be responsible for overseeing the operation of our Bandon branch(farm machinery display, farm stores and lawnmower shop).


Candidates should have a mechanical aptitude, a keen interest in machinery and a professional manner. While machinery sales experience is preferred applications from candidates with experience of another role in a farming/machinery business will be considered. What is key is the ability to create relationships for the long term by earning the respect of farmers and contractors by profitably serving their needs.


The successful candidate needs to be confident and business minded to satisfactorily determine the value of used machinery and ensure its resale. Self-motivation and an ability to independently structure a productive work schedule is required. The right candidate will also know how and when to get support from manufacturers’ representatives and colleagues.


The role requires some machinery demonstrations, and setting up displays/shows so familiarity with driving a tractor and using machinery is a prerequisite. An ability to document deals, maintain customer records and use IT tools is required. As such, being at ease with technology and business software is expected. This is a permanent and full-time position. Remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. Commission, pension and company vehicle also apply.

Pottinger Salesperson, Midlands Territory

Experienced salesperson required, based out of Birr, with responsibility for sales of the Pottinger portfolio of grassland and tillage implements for the midlands.


A proactive, professional and ambitious person is required. While a farming background would be an advantage a minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required. Likewise, knowledge of the target market would help the person get off to a quick start, but more important is a proven ability to create relationships for the long term by earning the respect of customers by profitably serving their needs.

Storesperson, Cork Branch

Storesperson required to join the Farm Machinery stores team (7 people) at Carrigrohane Road to support our farm shop and many machinery franchises. Candidates should be proactive, flexible and responsive. Customer service skills to be constructive and helpful, even when under pressure, should come naturally to those interested in this role. Also desirable is a methodical nature to maintain accurate stock records, forecast customer demand and maintain the presentation of the stores.


Previous relevant work experience is preferred but a trainee role will be considered. In either case an eager and fast learner is sought. As our product offering is mainly hardware supplies and machinery parts a farming background would be an advantage. Candidates need to possess a mechanical aptitude so as to be able to ask appropriate questions and correctly identify the parts required. Good English is required to be able to discuss such needs with customers, often over the phone. Please note, the successful candidate may commence in goods inwards/outwards role picking and packing parts orders until a sufficient knowledge of our products and processes is gained to allow the candidate serve customers.


This is a permanent and full-time position, Monday to Friday. In addition, Saturday mornings (overtime) are worked on a rota (1 in 3) basis. Remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate.

Mechanic, Birr Branch

Experienced mechanic required, based out of Birr, with responsibility for supporting our farm machinery implement sales in the midlands. While traded-in items to be refurbished could be of any brand the mainstay of the workload is expected to be the servicing and repair of Pottinger and Fendt implements.


The ideal candidate will be a qualified agricultural mechanic. Applications may be considered from candidates without a formal qualification if they have a number of years’ experience working with grassland machinery. Our main suppliers do have service managers on the ground in Ireland but the candidate will need to be predominantly reliant on his own expertise.


Workmanship and attention to detail are standards that are maintained at a high level in the Atkins Birr workshop and are required of any interested candidate. Likewise, an ability to communicate positively with customers, colleagues and suppliers is expected.


A flexible approach to working hours as the business demands in season is required. This is a permanent and full-time position, Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 17:30. Remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. Overtime will be required at times and is paid at enhanced rates. A van is provided.
